In Golf Putting There Are Only Two Things That Matter

Putting, being the most important part of golf, need not also be the most complicated. It is a simple target game, no more difficult than pool when there is a single ball on the table and a straight in shot of 12 inches. If you can make that shot, you can putt.

Too much "scientific" investigation has been done about putting. It has been reduced to a bunch of complicated theory that won't help anybody putt better. If anything, it will impede your progress.

If you want to putt good, there is only room for two considerations.

First, of course, is speed. The King. If you want your ball to go in or stop anywhere around the hole, the speed has to be right. It's that simple.

Second, then, is the line. If you can't see the line how are you going to roll your ball down it? It's not enough to imagine the line. you need to see the actual blades of grass your ball will start out rolling over.

The players on the tours today and in the past have confirmed beyond any reasonable doubt that nothing but speed and line matters when it comes to putting. Sam Sneads croquet, and then sidesaddle methods, worked for him. But what exactly did they do?

The allowed him to get his ball started ON LINE at the right SPEED. Nothing else. He resorted to those putting methods out of desperation, not because they were superior ways to putt. But they did what they needed to do for him and that is all that mattered.

The end result of all the science surrounding putting is that it still takes a human effort to get the ball started on line at the right speed. Whatever position you may find yourself in that allows you to do that is OK.

I found a way to get my putts started on line every time with no one knowing I am doing anything different. It works and I don't look silly.

So what are you willing to do to putt better? Sidesaddle? Long Putter? Claw grip?

In the end it doesn't matter as long as it works for you.
