Putting Tips Defined And Explained
Putting tips are easy to find. You get them on the course, on the TV, in magazines, and of course the internet. But what is a putting tip anyway? Is it the words on a page or computer screen? Is it the words spoken by a golf professional?
A putting tip is nothing more than a thought placed in your mind by someone else. Really, all one person can do for another is share a thought. It is up to you to interpret it and implement it in your game should you so choose.
There are some tips that are physically applied. For example, if someone told you to open your putting stance, that's a physical thing that can be shown. But the person showing you still cannot tell you if it feels right, or if it will even work for you.
So remember, you are the one who ultimately decides how to apply whatever knowledge you gain. Or how to not apply it. The application of a putting tip is entirely up to you.
If Dave Pelz gives you a putting tip that doesn't seem to work, throw it out. On the other hand, if 3-putt Joe tells you something that makes you putt better, there is no problem with keeping it.
An old man in a pool hall ultimately solved my putting dilemma because I applied his pool tip to my putting a few months later. He gave me a funny look when I thanked him for helping me with my putting! He's never played golf.
So it is not who, or even where, you get the putting tip (thought), it is how you apply it and whether or not it works for you.
